Organic Shopper... Yummmmmm...

The Organic Shopper —a locally owned magazine distributed throughout NC, SC, TN, GA, FL, and OH—has recently agreed to sponsor the Mars Hill College Cycling Team through 2011. The Organic Shopper’s mission—to promote an organic and sustainable ethos—meshes with Mars Hill College’s ecological awareness and on-going sustainable initiatives. Mars Hill College is committed to sustainability, demonstrated via its recently completed geo-thermally heated and cooled Ferguson Math and Science Building; its recent 10-year agreement with FLS Energy to place solar panels atop a number of buildings; and an up-coming LEED certified multi-purpose building currently in design. Numerous other eco-practices are being implemented as well.

Organic Shopper is a big piece of the puzzle in MHC Cycling’s commitment to being more than just a cycling team. Cycling is literally an ecological vehicle for promoting the sustainable message, and MHC Cycling will lead the charge in representing Mars Hill College’s sustainable actions, initiatives, and partners by building a “green” team of eco-friendly supporters that we will represent at  more than 60 cycling events during 2009-2010.

Organic Shopper’s success—it was recently selected by Sun Trust Bank to be the sole magazine promoted in a thank you package to 630,000 home mortgage purchasers—is rubbing off on the cycling team’s prospects. We are currently seeing a dramatic increase in students seeking scholarship opportunities with the cycling team. We will be announcing new elite cycling team members in the near future. And stay tuned for another big sponsorship announcement in the very near future.

Thanks Organic Shopper. And if you haven’t heard, Organic Fest is this weekend, Sunday September 13th from 10am-6pm on Battery Park Avenue, Downtown Asheville. See you there!
