Paul Webb Tears Up the Time Trial Course

Paul Webb has won MHC’s first race of the year at Georgia Tech over the weekend. In the first mountain bike event that MHC has ever entered a rider, and against a strong field of A category riders from 7 different southeastern schools, Paul won the 2.69 mile time trial in 15:27, 5 seconds faster than Warren Wilson’s Linden Blaisus and 38 seconds faster than Clemson’s Kevin Satterfield.

In the short track cross country event held a couple of hours later, Paul bridged up to Robert Giannini of the University of  Georgia and the two worked solidly for several laps. With about ten minutes to go, Paul encountered a lapped rider and blew a tire in a corner trying to avoid him. Paul tried to repair the tire but was unable and had to abandon the race. Giannini continued on for the win.  Blaisus (Warren Wilson) was 2nd and Joseph Collins (UGA) was 3rd.

During Sunday’s longer cross country event, Paul and UGA’s Giannini again found themselves out in front. On the last lap Giannini attacked Paul on the climb and was able to hold on for the win. Paul followed in for a strong 2nd. Linden Blaisus of Warren Wilson was 3rd.

Paul will compete at Eastern Tennessee State University next weekend, where he hopes to continue his early season success.
