MHC Takes home a big W!

23 04 2008

Rain and low cloud cover marked the beginning of the SECC conference championships at LeesMcRae.  It would take more then (than) poor weather to keep the Mars Hill Lions from roaring at this weekend’s criterium and road race.  Saturday’s race started with a tight slippery course and a field of motivated competitors.  After thirty minutes of all-out racing Mars Hill’s own Bryson Young and Sarah Anderson walked away with 5th and 4th place finishes respectively.  Sunday’s road race brought out a little bit of sun and a heavy  dose  of competition.  The race course profile suited Mars Hill with over 1,300 feet of climbing per loop.  Just as the clouds and drizzle came floating back in to Banner Elk ,  Mars Hill reached for the thermostat and turned the heat on the competition.  Bryson young drove hard to the finish line for  a  7th place finish out of a field of  35 riders.  Meanwhile back on the course Sarah Anderson was putting the hurt on the poor girls who chose to follow her wheel.  With the finish line in sight Sarah hit the gas and flew through the fog for her first of  big W!  Not bad for her first year on a bike!  As the grey skies  cleared and Lees McRae disappeared in the rear view mirror we were sure that Mars Hill had left a mark in Banner Elk.  Mars Hill Cycling sent a strong message this weekend : “We came here to race ,  not to play games.”

Till Next time-

Live well and ride hard,

MHC Cycling
