Why: To benefit our team, of course! We need to raise some dough to keep this show on the road and win more bike races. It’s for the kids!

Who: You, your family, friends, neighbors, strangers on the street. Everyone is welcome, at least the first 150 in the door. Then we might have fire marshal issues.

How: By bike preferably, but most forms of transport are acceptable. We will, however, be obliged to give entry discounts to those who pedal.

How Much?: $5-10 donation. Call 828.275.3950 or email hamoran@gmail.com to reserve tickets.

The Films:

Klunkerz: A Billy Savage film chronicling the birth of mountain biking. Set in Northern California’s Marin County, the film follows the pioneers of the sport and their make-shift bikes known as “klunkerz” as they lay the foundation for today’s mountain biking scene. 95min. www.klunkerz.com/www.vasenterainment.com

Chris Hoy: Just a Minute: A BBC documentary film that follows Olympic and world kilometer champion Chris Hoy as he attempts to break the world kilometer record in La Paz, Bolivia in May 2007. At the world’s highest velodrome, 12,000 ft up in the Andes, there is hardly any wind resistance, but there is little air to breathe either! With the International Olympic Committee pulling the kilometer event from the 2008 games, this was Hoy’s last attempt at the event. He would then go on to win three Gold medals in Bejing in the Sprint, Team Sprint, and Keirin. 30min.

Standing Start: In this stirring portrayal of man and his search for meaning, the life and battles of Odysseus are paired with the gladiator-like
race-day preparations of Olympic cyclist Craig MacLean. 12min.
