Mars Hill College is a private liberal arts college located in the Blue Ridge Mountains just 18 miles north of Asheville, North Carolina. The college has a long tradition of student interest in outdoor recreation and service, and in the spring of 2007 we made the natural progression to create a cycling team. We train on the peaceful yet challenging back roads of Madison County and compete in the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC), one of eleven collegiate cycling conferences organized under USA Cycling, the governing body for all competitive cycling in the US.
After the Mars Hill College cycling tradition started in the spring of 2007, we competed in select SECCC events in 2008, and then saw our first full season of road racing in the spring of 2009, including our first trip to the national championships. School year 2012-2013 marks our sixth year supporting top collegiate student-cyclists.
We race and send riders to national championships in all collegiate disciplines: road, mountain, cyclocross, track, and BMX. Along the way, we’ve collected over 30 national championship podiums, including three national titles on the road and two in cyclocross. The team was the #1 ranked D2 team in the nation in both 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. USA Cycling recognized our rapid rise up the collegiate ranks by naming us the “Collegiate Club of the Year” for 2010.
Riders on the team enjoy access to an elite cycling performance center via our partners, Spin-Tech Training. Their facility is near campus and includes a fleet of CompuTrainers for power testing and training. Spin-Tech also provides lactate threshold, VO2 max, and basal metabolic testing. We give our riders the tools they need to succeed.
We have momentum, campus and community support, and the perfect terrain to grow a stellar cycling team. The only missing ingredient is you.
